2006 SNFI Policy Debate Staff- This is a partial listing of initially confirmed new and returning staff, please check back often for updates!
Matt Fraser is the primary director of the SNFI, and the Director of Forensics at Stanford University and at the Head-Royce School. As a collegiate coach, Mr. Fraser has coached teams to elimination round success in all three types of collegiate debate, including elimination rounds at the National Debate Tournament. His high school teams have cleared to elimination rounds at every major national tournament, including Greenhill, Wake Forest, Valley, Bronx, St. Mark's, the Glenbrooks, Redlands, Loyola, Emory, Berkeley, Stanford, the TOC and NFL Nationals. 2006 will be Mr. Fraser's 17th year directing the SNFI.

Eli Anders currently debates at Harvard College, where he has cleared to elimination rounds at many national tournaments, including Georgia State, Kentucky, and Fullerton, and has also qualified for and competed at the NDT. In high school Eli debated for four years at College Prep, where he was in the finals or better of virtually every major national tournament, including St. Marks, the Glenbrooks, Berkeley, and Stanford. Eli and his partner took second at the 2004 Tournament of Champions after winning the TOC in 2003.

Sara Apel debated for Stillwater High School in Minnesota, and later for the University of Kansas and the University of Texas. Sara qualified to the NDT all four years of her college career, including two first round bids, and went on to the semifinal round in her senior year. In addition, Sara cleared at every major national tournament on the college circuit and made it to the final rounds of the USC and Fullerton tournaments, and was frequently a top 5 speaker. Sara also was a coach at the Kinkaid School in Houston, where her teams won the St. Marks tournament among other honors. Sara is currently a student at Emory Law in Atlanta. This will be her 4th year at the SNFI.

Judy Butler is one of the most experienced summer instructors in the nation, having taught at over 50 debate workshop sessions. Judy has coached debate at Emory University, Georgia State University, Spelman College, Woodward Academy, and Augusta Prep. Her teams have won numerous college and high school tournaments. Judy always gets rave reviews as dynamic and thought-provoking educator.

Rajat Dhir debated at Chattahoochee High School in the Atlanta area. He was a Kentucky Fellow, a three time TOC qualifier and had major successes at a number of tournaments. He was in finals at Ohio Valley; semis at Lexington; quarters at Michigan, Greenhill, Berkeley, Wake Forest, and Emory; and octos at the Glenbrooks and New Trier. Rajat will be debating in college and will be a junior faculty member of the 2006 SNFI.

Cyrus Ghavi currently debates at Emory University where he has made it to the late elimination rounds of every major national tournament and has received multiple NDT first round bids. In addition to being one of the top collegiate debaters in the nation, he is an experienced coach, working with several schools around Atlanta. Cyrus is also an experienced workshop instructor having taught at national debate institutes in Kentucky and Emory. This will be his fifth year teaching at the SNFI.

Erik Holland debated for the Head-Royce School in high school where he reached elimination rounds of every major national tournament, including the TOC. He was also awarded majoe speaker awards at a number of tournaments including Valley, Lexington, Emory, Berkeley, Stanford, and USC. As a college debater for the University of Southern California, Erik reached late out rounds at every major tournament including Northern Iowa, North Texas and Kentucky. Erik currently coaches and judges at various schools in California.

Shunta Jordan is the Director of Speech and Debate at Pace Academy in Atlanta, Georgia. Before coaching at Pace, she coached debate at her high school alma mater, Therrell High School in Atlanta. Over the past three years, she has coached teams in elims at Wake Forest, Harvard, St. Mark's, Lexington, Redlands, Ohio Valley, and USC. Over the past fifteen years, her debate camp teaching experience includes the Emory National Debate Institute, Longwood College Debate Institute, and Bates Forensic Institute. She is currently the director of Emory University's Summer Middle School Debate Institute. As a debater, Shunta had a successful high school and collegiate career including qualifying for the NDT while debating for The University of Georgia. This upcoming year will be her 18th in the world of debate, and her first at Stanford.

Nichelle Klosterboer currently debates for Idaho State University, where as a freshman she performed very solidly at all of the tournaments she attended, including clearing at Gonzaga. Nichelle also coaches for two schools, Pocatello High School and Highland High School, who both travel extensively in the West. As a high school debater for South Eugene High School, Nichelle won the Oregon State Tournament, and cleared at national tournaments including Stanford, Gonzaga, and Whitman. Nichelle is a rising star in college debate, and we are happy to have her join us this summer at the SNFI.

Mima Lazarevic debated at Glenbrook South High School and will debate in college. Mima was very successful on the high school circuit, where among other honors she was a Kentucky Fellow. Her senior year she was third at the Greenhill Round Robin; winner of the Blake Round Robin; a finalist at Georgetown Day; a quarterfinalist at Ohio Valley and New Trier; an octofinalist at Emory, Greenhill, Michigan, and MBA; and a top ten speaker at Greehhill, the Greenhill Round Robin, Georgetown Day, New Trier, St Marks, Michigan, Ohio Valley, Blake, and Blake Round Robin. Mima will be a junior faculty member at the SNFI this summer.

Chen Ni debated at Chattahoochee High School in the Atlanta area. Chen did quite well on the national circuit, winning the Ohio Valley tournament in 2004 and making it to finals in 2005; winning the Michigan tournament; making it to semis at Lexington; quarters at Michigan, Greenhill, Berkeley, Wake Forest, and Emory; and octos at the Glenbrooks and New Trier. Chen will be debating in college and will be a junior faculty member of the 2006 SNFI.

Toni Nielson is the Assistant Director of Debate at CSU Fullerton and recently completed her graduate degree in Communication Studies at CSU, Long Beach while coaching for that squad. Toni's teams have consistently qualified to the NDT and cleared at numerous tournaments. Toni herself has taught at a number of debate camps and is know for her passion for socially relevant argumentation and competitive acumen. Toni and her teams have been community leaders in the exploration of non traditional formats and argument.

jon sharp has directed the Swing Lab at the SNFI for a decade. jon has also taught and/or directed at the Berkeley, Emory, Bates, and Kentucky debate institutes. As a college debater for Emory, jon and his partner won the West Georgia, Harvard and Dartmouth Round Robin tournaments. As a coach, jon has qualified teams to the NDT each and every year. While coaching at West Georgia, his teams appeared in the finals of the CEDA National Tournament an unprecedented three times running, with two national championships. jon has also been named three times to the student-selected panel of "Critics of the Year". Recently jon finished his doctoral studies in communication at the University of Southern California and coached for New Trier High School. Currently, jon is the coordinator of the Jefferson County Debate League in Kentucky and an assistant coach at the University of Kentucky. In addition to directing the Swing Lab, jon is the Director of the Fellows program at the University of Kentucky Debate Institute.

Robert Thomas is the Director of Policy Debate at Stanford University. Mr. Thomas has also coached debate at Emory University, Bainbridge High School, Woodward Academy, and assisted at many other schools. He has judged hundreds of rounds on the high school and college circuits over the years including many final rounds. He has coached his high school students to win many tournaments including the Glenbrooks, Harvard, the Pace Round Robin, and Whitman, and to late elims at many other tournaments including Nationals and the TOC. Mr. Thomas, as an NDT debater from Emory, cleared consistently at national tournaments. His teams at Stanford have cleared at several tournaments. He has also directed other debate camps in California, Texas, Florida, and Pennsylvania, taught for many years at the Emory and Kentucky debate camps, and was the first instructor for both the Kentucky Fellows program and the Stanford Swing Lab program. Mr. Thomas has taught at or directed over 50 camps in his 22 years as a coach and critic. This is his 17th year as a faculty member at the SNFI. Mr. Thomas also serves as the Academic and Faculty Director at the SNFI.

Corey Turoff debated at the University of Southern California where he qualified for elimination rounds at every major national tournament including the quarterfinals of CEDA nationals in 2002. After graduating, Corey coached debate at Damien High School in California. His teams there were in finals of the Georgetown Day tournament, octofinals or better at USC, Redlands, Berkeley, St. Marks, the Highland Round Robin, and the octofinals of the Tournament of Champions. Corey now teaches and coaches debate at the Head Royce School where his teams have been in elimination rounds at St. Marks, USC, Redlands, and Lexington. Corey has taught previously at the SNFI and directed the National Debate Institute, DC.

Dan Veroff debated for Clovis West in California in high school, and now attends Sarah Lawrence College in New York. As a debater at Clovis, Dan cleared at many national tournaments including Long Beach, Berkeley, Stanford, and USC. Dan was top speaker at the Stanford tournament, 6th in the nation at Nationals, and 3rd at the California State tournament as a junior. Dan currently is a coach for Edgemont High School in New York, where his teams have cleared at most tournaments this last year, including MBA, the Glenbrooks, closing out the Lakeland tournament, and Finals at Lexington. This will be his first year at the SNFI.
