Sophomore Scholars Policy Debate Lab

Returning for the summer of 2011 is our Sophomore Scholars Lab. This lab is designed for rising sophomores to make the leap from novice to junior varsity or varsity debate. Led by veteran instructors Judy Butler and jon sharp, the lab will focus on extended, heavily critiqued practice debates and step-by-step instruction of the evidence production process. Practice debates will be alloted 3-4 hours each to maximize extensive critique. The evidence production process will also be given extra time to ensure that students leave the camp with a thorough understanding of the necessary steps to producing a quality, debate-ready file. As with our other programs, the student to staff ratio (9:1) guarantees substantial face-time with the instructors.

Changes for 2011:

• Electronic file production and advanced integration of technology in debate • A larger evidence production burden to ensure a balanced approach to the topic including both Policy and Critical argumentation • Inclusion in all lecture and seminar programs including our new argument labs and tracking system

Admission to this lab is highly selective and is on a first-come-first- serve basis. This lab filled very early last year, and we anticipate the staffing change will increase the pace even further- so please apply now!

Make sure to select the Sophomore Scholars option on the application to be considered for admittance.
